A House of Worship in a Mountain Village:
The Dedication of Hoi Kop Kap Church in Northern Thailand

Grace and peace to you from Southeast Asia.

Recently, we witnessed a beautiful moment of God’s faithfulness in a small mountain village in northern Thailand. It was one of those moments that reminded us again that the gospel often grows quietly, slowly, and faithfully—one family, one village, and one act of obedience at a time.

Near Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, there is a small mountain village called Hoi Kop Kap. About 1,000 people live there. For many years, the community has been shaped by traditional beliefs, including ancestor worship and spirit worship. In places like this, the gospel is not always easily understood, and the beginning of a church often requires much patience, prayer, and personal relationship.

But by God’s grace, the seed of the gospel began to take root in this village.

A Small Beginning in One Home

The ministry in Hoi Kop Kap began through the outreach of Pasak Church of the Nazarene, a local Nazarene church in northern Thailand. At first, the work was very simple. It began with visits, conversations, prayer, and small opportunities to share the love of Christ. Over time, God began opening hearts, and a small group of believers began to gather.

Before there was a church building, the believers met in the home of one church member. Every week, more than 20 people gathered in that house to worship, sing, hear God’s Word, and pray together. It was not a large congregation, and it did not have a formal building, but it was a true worshiping community. That small house became the first visible sign that the gospel was taking root in Hoi Kop Kap.

What makes this story even more significant is that the Church of the Nazarene is the only Christian church in this village. So the presence of Hoi Kop Kap Church is more than the beginning of one local congregation. It is a gospel witness to an entire village.

A Vision for a Church and Pastor’s Home

As the ministry continued to grow, the leaders of the Church of the Nazarene in Thailand began praying about a more permanent place of worship. The vision was to build not only a church building, but also a small parsonage so that a pastor could live nearby and serve the people faithfully. A piece of land was prepared—about 200 square meters, or a little over 2,000 square feet.

But for a small mountain village church, building a church facility was not easy. The local believers had faith and commitment, but they did not have enough financial resources to complete the project on their own.

Then God provided partners from Korea.

Mission Through Music

A Korean mission music group called Yehyang Pan Flute Mission came alongside this ministry. Yehyang began in 2004 as a Christian music mission community. For more than 20 years, they have used pan flute music to praise God, encourage churches, and share the love of Christ in Korea and beyond.

But Yehyang is not simply a music performance group. They are believers who have offered their musical gifts to God as a tool for mission. Over the years, they have visited mission fields, encouraged local churches, supported ministry needs, and participated in church-building projects. Through their generous giving, the Hoi Kop Kap church building became possible.

A Simple Building Filled with Prayer

The completed church is not large or elaborate. It is a simple building with white walls, a brown roof, and a cross at the front. But to the believers in that village, it is a precious house of worship. It stands as a testimony of prayer, sacrifice, and partnership in the gospel.

On May 26, 2026, Yehyang Pan Flute Mission traveled to Chiang Mai and joined the dedication service for Hoi Kop Kap Church. Local believers came wearing their traditional clothing and filled the new sanctuary. The Korean mission team joined them in worship, offering music and praise to God.

Although the languages were different, the heart of worship was the same.

As the sound of the pan flute filled the new church building, it felt like more than music. It was a prayer of thanksgiving. It was as if the whole service was saying, “Lord, may many more people come to know You through this place.”

That dedication service was not just the celebration of a completed building. It was a holy moment when the gospel became more deeply rooted in one mountain village.

Encouraging Children and Local Churches

During the same mission visit, the team also visited the Mae Taeng Tribal Children’s Home, where children from different tribal backgrounds are being cared for, educated, and discipled. The team brought medicine and mission supplies, encouraged the students and staff, and prayed for the ongoing ministry there. For the children and workers, the visit was a meaningful reminder that they are not forgotten.

Later in the week, the team also visited Nobo Daeng Church and shared a special mission concert. Through the warm sound of the pan flute, they worshiped with the local believers and encouraged the church to continue following God’s mission.

A New Chapter for Hoi Kop Kap Church

Hoi Kop Kap Church is now beginning a new chapter. There is still much work to do. More disciples need to be formed. The gospel needs to be shared more deeply in the village. Children and families need continued teaching, care, and spiritual formation.

But one thing is clear: God is already at work in Hoi Kop Kap.

A small worship gathering that began in one believer’s home has now become a church building in a mountain village. That building carries the prayers of local believers, the dedication of Thai Nazarene leaders, the generosity of Korean mission partners, and the faithful support of friends like you.

Like the gentle sound of the pan flute, we pray that the sound of the gospel will continue to echo through this village for many years to come.
